A steady drone for your riyaz, and three more reed instruments.
Tap Hold for a shruti-box drone in just intonation, in any key, or sing a note to set your Sa. Play a two-octave harmonium with sargam names, an Anglo concertina and a simplified bandoneon. On iPhone Duo, the hinge is the bellows.
What it does
Hold a steady drone
Tap Hold on the Shruti Box or Harmonium and the reeds keep sounding at a steady level and tone, with no pumping. The screen stays on while Bellows is sounding.
Sing Sa
Sing or hum one note and Bellows proposes the nearest note as Sa; set it and the drone retunes. The microphone is used only while Sing Sa listens, and the sound is never recorded, stored or sent.
Four instruments
Shruti Box (Sa, Ma, Pa, Ni and upper Sa in just intonation, in any of the 12 keys), Harmonium (C3 to B4, Western or sargam names, Sa and Pa drone stops), Anglo concertina (20-button C/G, a note on the push and another on the pull) and a simplified bandoneon.
A fuller reservoir sound
On the Shruti Box and Harmonium, pumping fills an air reservoir that the reeds draw from, so slow, gentle strokes build up to a full sound that carries on between strokes.
Made for iPhone Duo
- The hinge is the bellows: on the concertina and bandoneon, closing plays the push notes and opening plays the pull notes, and faster movement plays louder.
- Close to stop: closing iPhone Duo fades the sound out and turns Hold off.
Private
No in-app purchases, subscriptions, ads or accounts. Bellows collects no data, and your settings stay on your device.
Questions
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. You don't need an iPhone Duo: tap Hold for a drone, or drag the Touch bellows strip to pump air.
Can I use headphones?
Bluetooth headphones and AirPlay add a delay that makes the bellows hard to play. The built-in speaker or wired headphones respond best.
