Frequently asked questions
Are there in-app purchases, subscriptions or ads?
No. Bellows has no in-app purchases, subscriptions, ads or accounts. Every instrument and feature is included.
Do I need an iPhone Duo?
No. Bellows runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. On the Shruti Box and Harmonium, tap Hold for a steady drone. On every instrument you can drag the Touch bellows strip up and down to pump air.
How do I play with the hinge on iPhone Duo?
Open the phone and rock it gently, like a squeeze-box's bellows.
- Shruti Box and Harmonium: opening and closing strokes both fill the air reservoir, and the reeds keep sounding between strokes. Slow, gentle strokes are enough. To pump on one stroke only, turn off Air on both strokes in Settings and choose opening or closing strokes (closing works like a hand-pumped bellows). Closing the phone while Bellows is silent can make it sound briefly before it fades; with Silent close on, that closing stroke adds no air, so it stays quiet.
- Concertina and Bandoneon: closing plays the push notes and opening plays the pull notes, as on the real instruments. Faster movement plays louder.
Closing the phone stops the sound. When you open it again, Bellows stays silent until you start pumping.
I don't hear anything.
- Bellows sounds only while there is air: tap Hold, drag the Touch bellows strip, or rock the hinge on iPhone Duo.
- On the Shruti Box, make sure at least one reed is lit.
- Check the volume, and that another app isn't using the audio.
How do I change the key (Sa)?
Pick Sa from the menu on the Shruti Box, or in Settings under Sa / key. Or use Sing Sa: sing or hum a note and hold it, and Bellows suggests the nearest note as Sa. You can move it a semitone up or down before you set it.
Sing Sa says microphone access is off.
Allow it in Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone > Bellows, then come back to Bellows. You can always pick Sa from the list instead. The microphone is used only while Sing Sa listens; the sound is analysed on your device and never recorded, stored or sent.
The sound is late with Bluetooth headphones.
Bluetooth and AirPlay add a delay that makes the bellows hard to play. Use the built-in speaker or wired headphones for the best response.
Can I see sargam note names?
Yes. In Settings, set Note labels to Sargam.
Is the bandoneon layout the traditional one?
No. It is a simplified layout that is easy to learn: each button plays a whole tone higher on the pull than on the push.
What data does Bellows collect?
None. Your settings stay on your device. See the privacy policy.
