Frequently asked questions

Are there in-app purchases, subscriptions or ads?

No. Field Forms has no in-app purchases, subscriptions, ads or accounts. Every feature is included.

Which devices does it run on? Do I need an iPhone Duo?

Field Forms runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. You don't need an iPhone Duo: every feature works on every iPhone and iPad. On iPad in landscape a form opens as a two-page spread; on iPhone it shows one page at a time.

On iPhone Duo, the open inner display shows a two-page spread with the fold between the pages, the closed outer display shows one page at a time, and closing the device saves the open form at once.

How do I fill in a form?
  1. In Templates, tap a template to start a new form.
  2. Tap any field on the page. The inspector sheet shows the full question and the answer controls; its arrows step to the previous or next field.
  3. Use More > Details & Reference to give the form a reference, such as a site, unit or vehicle. It appears in the list and in the page header.
Why can't I complete and sign a form?
What does the SHA-256 checksum on a signed form mean?

When a form is signed, Field Forms locks it and records a SHA-256 integrity checksum of its contents, photos, signatures and notes. The checksum is printed on every PDF page, and Signed > Verify Integrity recalculates it to show whether anything changed since sign-off.

It detects accidental changes. It is not a cryptographic signature: someone with access to the device's files could change a record and recalculate it. Keep the exported PDF or JSON if you need a copy of record.

How do I change a form that is already signed?

Signed forms are read-only. Use More > Duplicate to start a new draft with the same answers and photos. Signatures are never copied.

Some text says “continued in annex”.

A field's box on the page has a fixed size, so the form looks the same for everyone. When an answer is longer than its box, the box says “continued in annex” and annex pages at the end of the form, on screen and in the PDF, show the full text.

How do I export or share a form?

Open the form and choose More > Export PDF & JSON. You can preview the PDF, then share or save the PDF or the JSON file. Drafts are marked “DRAFT — not signed” and their file names end in -DRAFT.

Where are my forms stored? Are they backed up?

Forms are stored only on your device and are not included in iCloud or computer backups. A form exists only on that device until you export it, so export completed forms to keep a copy. Deleting the app deletes its forms. Field Forms collects no data; see the privacy policy.

Can I use my own forms?

Yes. Templates are JSON files with pages, sections and fields. In Templates, choose Import Template and pick the file; if something is wrong, the app explains what and where. Email us for the template format.

Can I write on the pages?

Yes. Tap Annotate and write with a red, blue or black pen or a highlighter, with a finger or, on iPad, Apple Pencil. Notes stay with the field they were written on, on screen and in the PDF. More > Show Annotations shows or hides them.
